Things have been quiet at Critter Catchers since their 15 minutes of popularity after the brouhaha with the werewolf (oops, I mean wolfman -- it's a very important distinction!). Too quiet. It's late winter, critters are hibernating rather than wreaking havoc in Parsons Hollow homes, and Demetrius and Cody are barely able to keep their new business afloat. So it's good news when a neighboring farmer hires them to capture whatever creature has been preying on his herd of goats -- right? Well, maybe not, when it turns out the goats have all been exsanguinated. And the stealthy, barely-glimpsed killer looks like no animal the duo has ever seen or heard of.Although less than enthused about another possibly paranormal adventure, Cody and Demetrius can't turn down a paying job. So, with the (handsome) farmer and a (lovely) veterinary student in tow, off they go in pursuit of what sounds strangely like the mythical chupacabra. Much mayhem awaits. Much of what I enjoyed in the first book was here again: the humor; the multi-dimensionality of the MCs, who could have been treated as dumb good-old-boys, but are much more than that; and most of all, the lack of romance. Yes, you heard that right. No romance! Yet. ;)The two guys are lifelong best friends, Demetrius gay (with a boyfriend) and Cody straight (with an almost endless string of short-term girlfriends left in his wake). But each is struggling with disturbing new feelings toward the other, setting up lots of UST and teasing the possibility of an eventual romance somewhere down the line. I am a complete sucker for UST and I'm enjoying this flouting of romance novel convention so much I can hardly tell you. But... Notice the 3 star rating? That's because around 60% the story went completely off the rails. I mean, there's only so much disbelief one person can suspend. Chupacabras, yes. (view spoiler)[Mad scientists (all wearing white lab coats, because well duh!) in a secret laboratory hidden in plain view (hide spoiler)], no. And action scenes are definitely not this author's forte.Still, I'm having so much fun with Cody & Demetrius that I immediately bought book 3. So stay tuned for further updates...

Demmy and Cody are back in a wild adventure that doesn’t disappoint. Hank Edwards continues his brand of fun, humor, sexy men and the paranormal in Chasing the Chupacabra.Despite their first paranormal case of a wolfman, Demmy and Cody just want life to be normal and for their business to pick up. They are riding the business red line, and it makes neither man comfortable. However, things being what they are, Cody and Demmy approach the strife in classic best bud style when they are engaged in an unidentified critter case.I loved the Supernatural/X-Files feel this series of books has, in addition to the romance gently weaved into the story. Edwards creates his own version of the paranormal romance, blending the supernatural and the slow-burn feelings both Demmy and Cody are experiencing in an excellent manner. It’s not all smut or romance either, as the hilarious antics of both men and the people that inhabit Parson’s Hollow return to not only help out with Cody and Demmy’s case but in their personal lives as well. Edwards ramps up the UST between the men, and it doesn’t let go.Feelings are happening and neither man is certain just exactly what is going on between them, but something definitely is! And it isn’t just the strange and paranormal happenings that seem to be plaguing Parson’s Hollow.Chasing the Chupacabra is a fun and hilarious romp from the safety of my tablet screen, and I can’t wait to see where Hank Edwards takes us, and Cody and Demmy, next.Reviewed by Angel for The Novel Approach Reviews

Note to self: Please check if there is another book in the series. I kept thinking "What happened with the wolf man? What was up with that? Why is there no explanation?" Duh. You skipped book 1. Ooops.Anyway, Demetrius and Cody have a company catching stray animals but things are not going well and they are on their last legs financially until they get asked to help figure out what is killing a local farmer's goats. I did not click m/m for this because Cody is straight and Demetrius is gay and while there is a fair bit of daydreaming on either part about the other, Demetrius has a boyfriend who is a journalist and Cody sleeps with many girls. Anyway, they end up chasing the goat killer which leads to a bigger mystery. It's all done with light hand, it's not a realistic story, but it's a fun one with lots of character. Still, I didn't really connect. Maybe because it's not really m/m yet? I'm sure it will be eventually. I like this author so I may go back and read book 1. I don't think that really diminished much from the story, maybe I just wasn't in the mood. *shrug*

Review written for Love Bytes Reviews.Six months after hunting down and taking out a wolf man that had been terrorizing the town, Demetrius and Cody are back and better than ever. Business has been slow over the winter months and the bills are piling up but with their latest case and the promise of a substantial payday, things are beginning to look up. Something is killing a local farmer’s goats and it becomes obvious fairly quickly that this isn’t going to be the run of the mill job they were hoping for. When the farmer goes missing and signs point to foul play, the boys of Critter Catchers will have to step up their game if they plan on coming home the victors.Much like the first book in the series, this was a really entertaining read. I mean, how many people can say they’ve read a book with a chupacabra in it? There didn’t seem to be as much interaction between the main characters in this story as there was in the first (a lot of things were being set up then, so I can understand that) but the connection was still tangible between the two. Demetrius is still in a relationship with Oliver from the previous story and that had an impact on quite a few things this time around; you can see the strain between him and Cody as Oliver is making his presence felt on a more personal level. You can also see the strain between Demetrius and Oliver also, however, as Demmy’s friendship with Cody is also going through some changes. It was nice to see Cody’s views on Demmy begin to change and I’m really enjoying the slow buildup from friends to something more that’s been happening gradually over the course of both books. The mystery itself was interesting though maybe a little less involved than in the first book though I was still surprised by the explanation into the creature and how everything was resolved. Without giving anything away, I’d still like to nominate the Widow for a medal. The author might not have meant for it to, but I laughed so hard when she showed up later in the book. That moment in the story was very nearly priceless to me.

I’ll admit. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story. But I was in one of those “what the hell” moments and decided I’d check it out. I have to admit, it was a pleasant surprise. It’s kind of a mixture between a cozy mystery and a paranormal suspense all mashed up with a whole “Scooby Doo” television show-esque feel. Demmy and his best friend Cory run a company that gets rid of creatures you have hanging around – you know the kind: squirrels, skunks, and oh yeah, the wolf man they caught the year before. But they’re in trouble monetarily and even though they’ve sworn not to go near the paranormal again… sometimes the need of money forces action. So when goats turn up exsanguinated, well, they’re on the job against a possible chupacubra.I do not want to give anything away, but I have to say, it’s a whole lot of fun from beginning to end. The secondary characters truly make the show. Especially Widow Monroe who shouldn’t be driving and yet still is. She is a wonderful dig at society as a whole and if you like dry humor? You’re gonna love this book. The story was charming enough I may have to get hold of the first book in the series to check out what happened with the wolf man. And I wonder just how Edwards is going to handle Cory and Demmy’s possible budding ‘more than friends’ bromance. After all, Oliver is sweet and I would hate to have him tossed to the side if those two decide to shake things up.Cute, amusing, and good for a read when you just want a light book to read.Reviewed by a-nony-mouse for Crystal’s Many Reviewers*Copy provided for review*

Here we go, book two. And you need book one to understand the players and the feelings of this one.So this poor town, at one time so peaceful and now, wow blood bath. Dem and Oliver have started a relationship, Cody is not handling it well, but no one is catching on that the straight friend is or has always been jealous and wants Dem all to himself. Although I think Oliver finally got it. And is trying his best to be a wedge between the pair, without being obvious. Because Cody is still a man child, to Dem Cody is just acting like a brat.Business is picking up, and things are looking better for the two, then they catch another blood bath case. The chase and catch of the creature was fun and watching everyone get involved with that. But once again, I just can’t put my finger on this story, the pulse. I’m not a fan of any of these people, Oliver has an agenda, Cody is too ‘man child’ and Dem is to passive. None of it is working for me.Received a copy in exchange for an honest review by Chrystal Many reviewers

I loved the sequel and its supernatural mystery that Demy and Cody had to solve. I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters becoming stronger, even with Oliver trying to get in the middle of their friendship.

I fell in love with the first book, this one didn't capture me at all- in fact, I think I kind of hated it.

My favorite thing about this series is the byplay between Demmy and Cody. Cody is such a big, happy, wide open kid with a smart mouth and killer looks. Demmy is the more serious, patient voice of reason who manages the details of their business and steps in to smooth over ruffled feathers when Cody's sarcasm or temper (or past dating history) gets them in hot water. But their dialog is hilarious! These are two guys know each other better than anyone else--almost better than they know themselves. They've always been just friends; even gay Demmy has been immune to Cody's sexual magnetism. But things began changing in book one. I am including a spoiler here for people who want to know if the guys do get together in this book. (view spoiler)[Unfortunately the slow burn continues to be slow. It's just crept forward a little more in this book. The only sex scenes you'll find here are between Demmy and Oliver, the guy he's in like with. I didn't know if people would feel that they wanted to invest in another book if the two guys didn't get together in it. I'm reading on KU so I'm enjoying the series immensely and in it for the long haul; others buying may be swayed by the lack of a romantic relationship.(hide spoiler)] The paranormal aspect is entertaining and even more far-fetched than the first. There are plenty of dangerous situations and near misses to keep readers turning the pages quickly. I am completely in love with the guys and eager to check out the next book in the series.
