I received a complimentary kindle copy of Unchain My Heart by author Zhu Hsia via KONG Publishing House in exchange for my honest opinion. I really liked it! I suggest you check this novella out!
For disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This book takes place in modern Egypt, in a small village close to Luxor. The main characters are two teen-aged sisters, a boy that one of the sisters loves, a spirit, and a mysterious Mau cat. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into modern small town life in Egypt. The characters were well written, and the story was interesting. I have two complaints about the book. The author had the two girls use a lot of profanity, which seemed unrealistic for girls who lived so traditionally that they couldn’t speak to a boy, or be alone with a boy. The second problem was that the author frequently used variations of “ogle” (to look at amorously, flirtatiously, or impertinently) when the context indicated that she meant “stare” or “gaze”. For example, she had the sisters ogling each other. I found both of these problems distracting, and it detracted from the experience of the book for me.
I was gifted a copy of this quick magical novella under the title of Poison's Heart. The title refers to an enchanted chain given to a young man by a woman who desperately wants marry him.His heart really belongs to another, a girl he has known all his life. Custom where they live is for arranged marriages, often to members of the family bloodline. Love and romance have no say in a marriage. It is also the story of family love beteen sisters. Mona knows she loves her best friend, but he is betrother to another. Her younger sister wants Mona to be happy and makes a wish.It is an enjoyable read, full of magic. There is a tragic event, which leads to more magic, and finally a happy ending.Or is it the end?
Chain of EventsMona has been friends with Ahmad since they were children playing in the village. Now, Mona realizes she is desperately in love with her friend. While her sister moans in frustration, Amira wants swift and decisive action. She wants Mona to tell Ahmad how she feels about him. Amira feels like smacking her sister when Mona says she can't open herself up to the humiliation of possible rejection.Ahmad behaves like a man who is bewitched.Has Ahmad's fiancé Hannah used more than her woman wiles to trap Ahmad into an eternity with her?Unchain My Heart, a paranormal romance fantasy novella by Natashiah Jansen and Zhu Hsia, is a story of love and hate and good and evil. Although short, it's an entertaining work with some twists to surprise the reader.
An evil curse, a selfless wish, a helpful genie, and an amazing cat combine to make “Poison’s Heart” a novella that pits good against evil and allows love to shine through. Set in Egypt, this paranormal romance is filled with realistic dialogue and interesting characters. It is a short book, can be read quickly, will likely be enjoyed by young adults, and is very deserving of four stars.
This just didn't feel very realistic to me, I feel that if this book was longer I would actually feel something for the characters but this felt way too rushed, and I didn't really learn or feel anything for the characters.
Needs more...Needs more...This is a very short book. The storyline was interesting, unfortunately there was no depth to it. I want to feel what the characters are feeling and this book lacked that.
